Investment Director, Home & Place Vertical
Candide Group leverages capital to support the transition away from an extractive global economy to one rooted in social justice and sustainability. We work with families, foundations, and other clients who want to align their money with these values, managing 100% impact portfolios that may include direct deals, funds, and innovative structures. Our work spans multiple sectors, with 92% of the companies and funds we invest in led by women and/or BIPOC leadership as of June 2025. Since inception, we have directed over $299M into more than 160 companies and funds, reflecting our strong commitment to equity and inclusion both within our team and in the organizations we support.
As a Registered Investment Advisor, we focus on private assets, including debt, private equity, real assets, and new structures, where real capital needs intersect with opportunities for mission-aligned impact. We recognize that achieving our vision requires pursuing multiple strategies, from transformative investing to active advocacy, campaign participation, and public engagement. As we continue to grow, we are deepening relationships with families, foundations, and institutions who want their capital working for justice, and we encourage candidates to review our portfolio page for examples of the projects and funds we champion.
About this Position:
Since the founding of Candide Group in 2013, we have taken a broad impact approach that was designed to be responsive to the world’s evolving needs, in constant conversation with affected communities to set priorities. In 2024, we realized that we could better organize, conduct, and communicate our work through four thematic areas or “verticals” of impact, while keeping an openness to emergent strategies. These include Home and Place, Employee Ownership, Climate Justice, and Diverse Allocators and Entrepreneurs. We cut across these verticals with intersectional lenses, as we seek to support individuals and communities who have experienced the harms of finance.
With regards to Home and Place, Candide Group understands that vibrant communities thrive on accessibility – affordable homeownership, retail spaces, and rental housing. Too often, speculative real estate prioritizes profit over people, undermining community well-being. Our work in Home and Place seeks to strengthen local ownership, expand access to affordable housing and rentals, and help build and preserve resilient, inclusive communities. For example, through our investment in Blackstar Stability, a real estate fund that acquires extractive contract-for-deed arrangements and converts them into fairly priced, sustainable mortgages, we help support wealth-building opportunities for low-income households while advancing more equitable housing models.
The ideal candidate may have led a housing fund or portfolio for a foundation, spent time in housing organizing or government policy, and will bring a strong background in diligence and investment management. We understand that while candidates may not have expertise in all of Home and Place’s supporting themes and expected responsibilities, they should have deep demonstrated experience in at least several of these areas. At a minimum, candidates will be confident that they possess the due diligence and financial analysis skills and enthusiasm required to learn deeper underwriting of such opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Deal Origination & Pipeline Development
Stay attuned to and proactively source catalytic investment opportunities emerging within the Home and Place vertical, positioning Candide to play a leadership role in advancing transformative models.
Conduct in-depth research to develop and maintain a robust investment pipeline, while collaborating with colleagues to ensure integration across initiatives.
Impact & Financial Diligence
Conduct deep and nuanced assessment of impact strategies in the Home & Place vertical, identifying critical needs for communities and developers, and assessing the potential contribution of innovative fund strategies toward addressing those needs.
Lead comprehensive due diligence and underwriting across asset types (real estate, land, private equity funds, direct deals, and private debt), ensuring both financial and impact outcomes are met.
Bring both strategic perspective and technical expertise - able to shape the broader investment vision for the vertical while also going deep into analysis, independently drafting high-quality investment memoranda with rigorous financial and impact assessment.
Thought Leadership & Strategic Engagement
Maintain a strong pulse on trends, opportunities, and emerging innovations within the Home & Place vertical, building a distinct practice area that advances Candide’s leadership in this space.
Develop and share insights through quarterly commentaries, impact reporting, blogs, and thought pieces designed not only to inform but also to capture attention and spark interest among prospective clients and partners.
Represent the Home & Place vertical at conferences, industry events, and client engagements, building visibility and credibility for Candide as a leading voice in impact-driven investment.
Position Candide as a go-to partner by translating sector expertise into compelling narratives that grow presence, influence, and client conversion.
Portfolio Monitoring & Performance Management
Support the ongoing monitoring and performance management of a diverse portfolio of Home and Place investments.
Collaborate with the investment team to identify risks, track impact and financial performance, and ensure timely reporting.
Fund & Vehicle Development (Optional)
Contribute to the potential design, structuring, and launch of a Home and Place fund and/or investment vehicle if strategy is pursued.
If launched, oversee fundraising efforts, investor engagement, and capital deployment strategies to ensure alignment between capital, portfolio performance, and long-term impact.
Travel may be required (approximately 15%).
A Candidate likely to thrive in this role:
Brings 10+ years of experience in sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, with the ability to conduct research and build a robust pipeline aligned to financial and impact objectives.
Possesses demonstrated ability in impact diligence and financial analysis, with strong skills in assessing community needs and evaluating impact strategies.
Has demonstrated success in leading due diligence and underwriting across a range of asset classes, such as real estate, land, private equity funds, direct deals, and private debt.
Communicates findings effectively through well-crafted investment memoranda and client presentations that combine analytical rigor with clear recommendations.
Demonstrates the ability to contribute Home and Place thought leadership, including writing commentary and impact reports, and representing investment themes at industry events and conferences.
Excels in portfolio monitoring and performance management, identifying risks and ensuring alignment of financial returns with impact outcomes.
Demonstrates experience or interest in integrating grassroots and community perspectives into investment diligence and underwriting.
Communicates effectively across diverse viewpoints and lived experiences, engaging with respect and empathy.
Operates as a self-starter, comfortable working independently while maintaining high standards for quality and rigor.
Ability to support or lead fund/vehicle development for the Home and Place vertical, including structuring, fundraising, capital deployment, and ongoing management (if such a vehicle is launched) is a plus, but not required.
